Jelly Bean Jewels Cookie Mix in a Jar

1 3/4 cups yellow cake mix
1/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 1/2 cups crisp rice cereal (like Rice Krispies)
3/4 cup jelly beans (full size or miniature)

Layer ingredients in order given in a 1 quart wide mouth jar. Press each layer firmly in place. Put jelly beans in a snack size zip-top bag. Press bag very firmly into jar. Decorate jar and attach recipe.

Remove bag of jelly beans from the jar. Set aside.

Empty jar contents into a large mixing bowl. Blend thoroughly with a whisk.

Add 6 tablespoons (3/4 of 1 stick) very soft butter or margarine (NOT diet or tub). Mix with an electric mixer or a spoon until mostly blended. Finish mixing with your hands to form a smooth dough. Drop by tablespoonsful 2 inches apart on sprayed cookie sheets. Make an indentation in each cookie with your thumb. Place (2 full size or 3-4 miniature size) jelly beans into each indentation.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 10-12 minutes. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet, then remove to wire racks.

Makes 26-30 cookies
